Frankie Magazine

Daniella Germain

Today I brought the new issue of Frankie Magazine, which is amazing!
Its always good, but theres something about this issue that will keep me blogging
for days. One of the articles I came across was called ‘And now Im broke’
about an Australian illustrator who cut her spending by drawing everything she buys.
My instant thought was how cool is that! I mean why write down what you buy when
you can illustrate it. Anyway way she had spent $300 (ausy dollars) on a pair of
Camper boots, it says she became struck down with a bad case of buyers remorse
(If we are all honest we’ve felt that way at least one, I know Ive had a bad case
of why did I just buy that). So after that spend out Daniella decided to start
keeping tracking of what she was spending by illustrating her purchases.
Its a really good article! but I also think her illustrations are really cute.

Ausy’s cant help but love their style

Hillsong United

I really love Hillsong United, and I really love the designers, photographers, and videographers who produce their album artwork etc.
Lately I have been captured by their photo blog; an image can really have 1000 meanings. I have no idea who is creating the following images…..
but dont worry I will find out! When you look at the blog (which I hope you do take the time) yes you will see alot of circles, triangles, and
squares, of course some may say they are way over used in design……..but each to his own! I think they look great (even the middle one with slightly
interesting type which I wouldnt use myself….but when really looking at the image the type seems to fade away to become part of the image,  you end up getting caught up in the colours and interesting photo layout).

Kozu

There is one Ausy designer I know that Hillsong United uses, and that is Glenn Stewart (Kozu). I love the designs he did for The I Heart Revolution!
The images are powerful in themselves, but what he does to them adds something even more amazing! Im a big fan of a slight colour over a photo or film (video), it brings an extra punch to the eye when flicking through a book or watching a clip, and also keeps people interested. Everything is so well linked; the book, dvd menus etc……sign of a good designer.

The most important part of any design/video work is the message, I find as a designer myself it can be hard to look at an image or film and not start pulling it apart, but I am working on enjoying them as a whole, its an amazing thing when we do.

Both Hillsong and Glenn are Ausys! Great style guys! great style!

Creative New Zealanders

Special Problems

I am proud to call myself a New Zealander! I am always amazed by the work that’s being
produced by the creative industry here; first by Weta, and now many other individuals and
boutique creative studios. I simply love the work that Special Problems is producing!
My favourite would have to be the music video they created for Brooke Fraser’s ‘Something
in the Water’.

Bayly and Moore

Sophia Bayly and Simon Moore are amazing photographers/designers!
They are based in Auckland, New Zealand, but do alot of traveling around.
I have total respect for any creative doing anything with paper or stop motion!
They worked so hard on Genevas music video ‘Scream’. They said it it was
“3 days of Geneva lying on the ground and 1000 pieces of paper”.

Beauty through the lens of a camera

Esther Havens

In my whole 24 years on earth I dont think I have ever come across a female
photographer as good as Esther Havens; she’s amazing! To me shes up there
beside Jeremy Cowart, as far as creative inspirations go. Esther’s photography
captures so much emotion and beauty, not only that, but the colours are so rich.
If you’re looking for inspiration check out her website, the links up the top.

Inspiring People

I was just thinking about people who inspire me. All of them
are completely humble, and probably wouldn’t like to be
made a fuss of, but I want to share with you a small part of
why they inspire me. This is going to take a few blog posts.

Seth Happu

The first one on the list is my friend Seth Haapu.  I’m honored
to have such a talented friend like Seth. Over the past year it has
been amazing to see both his and my dream come about…..
although im still only half way there. He has always encouraged
me to follow my dreams, for that  I will always be very grateful.
Checkout Seth’s facebook page to hear whats going on with
his music, or go to itunes to by his single ‘Bones’

Joel Houston

When people think about Joel Houston they probably think
“O he’s the guy in Hillsong Unitied”, and yes he is…..
but he also has an amazing heart for justice; to help the lost,
poor, and broken hearted. Him and his team show what true worship
really is “to set the oppressed free, to loose the chains of injustice”
(Isaiah 58:6).  Checkout the Iheart link above to see what I mean.
I’d have to say hand down Brian Houston gives the best sermons ever!!
Each to his own taste of preacher though.

ECO Dresses

I was in the magazine store the other day and stumbled across a wonderful magazine called
Peppermint, it has great articles and info about all things eco.

SARAH SEVEN

Its really good to see something alittle different once in a while, and Sarah’s
dresses sure do make the cut. The materials really nice, and so is the style!
One might say that it is a little vintage.

PINCH AND SPOON

Im going to have to say that yes Pinch and Spoon is a different name
for a fashion label, but sure did capture my attention! I really liked
Peppermint’s mag photo shoot with Pinch and Spoons dresses,  so
if you can find a copy of the mag Id really recommend the buy.

ECO FASHIONISTA

MINNA

The photo below actually features in Peppermint (well
its missing the other half). I love the fact something
simple can look so good.

Pen and Ink

There is something about illustrators who draw in pen or ink that I really like.
I think it is because  the illustrations are done with the human hand and not
on a computer.

Will Hill

I recently joined the behance website, which has a lot of creative people!
I was blown away by this guys imagery…..
sometimes the simple things are the most effective.
